Overlooking The Sad Scene

About four o’clock on Sunday morning the searchlight arrived at Whitby Station by special train. It was manhandled through the town, over the swing bridge and up on to the East cliff. By the light of motor lamp it was set up and the powerful beam trained on the scarcely recognisable Rohilla.

The barometer was still facing, the rain pelted down and the wind had increased. There seemed little hope that the men on the wreck could survive the night.
